At a Glance
Jeffcom 911, serving 29 police, fire, and EMS agencies across Jefferson and Clear Creek counties, transitioned from legacy on-premise recorders to Exacom’s HindSight Cloud, a fully cloud-native SaaS recording platform hosted in AWS. The system now captures every communications stream (voice, text, video, and screen activity), runs continuous QA via API, and requires no customer-performed upgrades or patching.
- Organization: Jeffcom 911 (29 police, fire & EMS agencies)
- Solution: HindSight Cloud (SaaS) on AWS, integrated with:
- Motorola P25 & L3Harris radio: Captured redundantly via compact edge servers at Lakewood ECC and Golden ECC
- Carbyne APEX: Direct AWS-to-AWS integration for voice, video, transcripts, and text
- Screen Recording: Desktop capture from 52 workstations via two lightweight customer VMs
- GovWorx CommsCoach QA: API-powered QA scoring on 100% of calls
- Outcome: 100% uptime; no single points of failure for the recording system; unified incident views; minimal ongoing maintenance; continuous QA insights; predictable subscription pricing & streamlined procurement
The Challenge
When Jeffcom began evaluating replacements for its aging, on-premise recorders, its priorities were clear: maximize uptime, reduce maintenance complexity, improve integration flexibility, and align with its growing cloud-native ecosystem. Their former system introduced several long-term challenges:
- Large Hardware Footprint: Supporting a high-volume center like Jeffcom required a significant physical infrastructure. Multiple servers, racks, and supporting hardware took up valuable space and required ongoing IT oversight to manage.
- Costly Lifecycle Replacements: As hardware aged, Jeffcom faced major capital expenditures to replace recording systems. A cloud-native model offered lower-cost infrastructure and eliminated the spikes associated with large hardware refreshes.
- Site-Dependent Recovery Model: Although Jeffcom had redundancy at its 3535 site, the on-prem model still introduced access risks compared to geographically distributed cloud resilience.
- Strategic Move to the Cloud: With Carbyne APEX already cloud-native, Jeffcom chose to align its overall technology strategy accordingly. Jeffcom sought an end-to-end cloud-based ecosystem for greater flexibility and long-term sustainability.
Why Exacom’s HindSight Cloud
When Jeffcom issued its RFP, “operational and technological effectiveness” was weighted highest. Exacom’s SaaS HindSight solution scored top marks by delivering a cloud-native mission critical recording service with guaranteed availability and seamless integration to Carbyne APEX, Motorola P25 and L3Harris P25 systems that are critical to their operations.
