New York State Invests $85 Million to Advance NG911
On September 25, 2025, New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced a landmark $85 million investment to accelerate the state’s transition to Next Generation 911 (NG911).
This funding will be distributed across 57 counties outside of New York City, with each county receiving at least $1 million. The grants will support county-level Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) and their backup centers as they upgrade to digital, internet-based 911 systems that align with NENA i3 standards.
By moving away from aging analog infrastructure, NG911 will enhance:
-
Reliability – ensuring calls connect during high-demand events.
-
Accuracy – improving caller location and routing.
-
Speed – delivering faster, more effective emergency response.
Governor Hochul emphasized, “Public safety is my number one priority, and that means ensuring that we have the technology and equipment in place to support our first responders and their quick response to emergency situations.”
This latest initiative underscores New York’s commitment to modernizing emergency communications and preparing communities for the future of public safety.
